It’s great to capture a standard set of wildebeest images in the Mara or Serengeti. At Exposure Tours I like to help guests push things further by experimenting with different styles and techniques. As we travel in a small group with each vehicle having only two photographers we have lots of time to get creative! One of the things I do is to encourage the selection of different shutter speeds and motion techniques like panning.
At the time of shooting if the light is suitable I often visualize the images stripped of color and converted to monochrome for a more documentary style shot.
This emphasizes the effect and helps focus the view on a more raw style image. Occasional I push the iso and go to a high key effect to get a more grain like feel stripping the image further to bring out just shapes and forms.

Most of these are shot in the 300-400mm range, with shutter speeds from 1/6th to 1/2000, typically f4 to f8
