Mara Big Cats Photo Safari

Capture The Big Cats in Africa’s Award Winning Park

Our Photo Safaris: Crafted by Photographers, for Photographers

Our photo safaris are meticulously designed by photographers to ensure excellence in every detail, regardless of your skill level. Unlike others, we focus exclusively on one breathtaking region— The Mara, East Africa.

For the past 30 years, we’ve honed our expertise in this area, making us the go-to choice for capturing the same stunning landscapes and wildlife often seen in BBC and National Geographic documentaries. Don’t be surprised if we encounter a film crew or two, or if you capture the Big 5 in a single day!

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi

Most international flights arrival in Nairobi late evening so you will normally be out of the airport around midnight. Our team will be waiting to greet you and take you to a boutique hotel for a good night’s sleep.

Day 2: Exploring Locally (B, L)

We stay local today, visiting the world-renowned Sheldrick Animal Orphanage, featured by Disney and Netflix. You’ll get incredible close-ups of elephants, followed by eye-level giraffe shots at Giraffe Manor. We’ll end the day with lunch and a tour of The Out of Africa house, before heading back to the hotel for dinner.

Day 3: Into the Wilderness (B, L, D)

After breakfast, we journey west to a forested area in Kenya. Here, you’ll experience wildlife like never before, with big elephant herds right at your doorstep. Multiple viewing points, including floodlit night viewing, ensure you don’t miss a thing. In the evening, relax by the fire or watch the animals from your room. If you get up early you might be lucky and see a leopard as our last guests did.

Day 4: Rhinos at Mt. Kenya (B, L, D)

We head to a tented camp near Mt. Kenya, where we guarantee rhino sightings. Most people never get to see these endangered and shy animals. Including this opportunity means that before getting to the mara you will have already photographed giraffe, elephants, buffalo, rhino and possibly a big cat!
After an afternoon game drive, enjoy dinner and capture images of wildlife by the lake opposite your tent.

Day 5: Fly to the Mara (B, L, D)

We take an internal flight to the Mara, but don’t put your camera away—one of the aerial shots from our photo safari was even shortlisted for the Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest! Upon arrival, your driver/guide will be waiting at the airport to take you on an exciting game drive. Along the way, you’ll get an introduction to the ecosystem and learn about animal behavior. Keep your eyes peeled—you might encounter some big cats!

In the evening, you’ll settle into our first camp, where you can meet fellow guests and unwind by the campfire.

Day 6: Full Day in the Field (B, L, D)

Prepare for a full day out, from dawn to dusk. We have breakfast and lunch in the field allowing us to explore areas that are not busy and away from the camps. Past guests have managed to capture the Big 5 in one day, so keep your camera ready!

Day 7: Morning and Afternoon Safaris (B, L, D)

We’ll start early to catch the sunrise and the animals waking up, with golden light perfect for photographing active wildlife and hunting predators. Having seen plenty of zebras, wildebeest, and buffalo, it’s a great time to get creative with your shots.

We’ll return to camp for lunch and some rest. The afternoon is yours to relax or try optional activities like archery.

In the late afternoon, we’ll head out again as cooler temperatures bring the animals back to life. Watch for big cats using the fading light to stalk their prey.

As the sun sets, we’ll return to camp for dinner and a restful night.

Day 8: Deep in the Mara Triangle (B, L, D)

We’ll head to our second Mara camp, deep in the triangle. After a morning game drive and lunch, you’ll explore prime big cat areas. Leopards can be elusive, but we have a 100% success rate in spotting them. Our expertise even led the ranger department to ask us to name one.

In the afternoon, we’ll track lions and cheetahs, offering great photo opportunities and insights into their behavior. On our way back to camp, we’ll capture some stunning sunset shots.

Day 9: Exploring the Mara (B, L, D)
Full Day in the Field

We start at sunrise, with coffee and tea before heading out with packed breakfast and lunch. In addition to the abundant wildlife, you’ll have the chance to capture stunning landscapes, blending dramatic skies with trees and animals. As we explore, every moment holds the possibility of an unforgettable encounter—you might witness a lion kill, spot cheetah cubs, or see young elephants at play.

Expect to be shooting constantly and filling your camera with thousands of photos! We’ll return to camp for our final night.

Day 10: Final Game Drive and Departure (B)

The unpredictability of a safari means that even on your last day, you might capture that perfect shot. To make the most of your time, we’ve arranged an internal flight back to Nairobi, saving you about 5 hours of driving. The airstrip is just 10 minutes from camp, giving you enough time for an early morning game drive, breakfast in the field, and even lunch if you wish.

In the afternoon, we’ll drive you to the airstrip for a 45-minute flight to Nairobi. Upon arrival, you’ll be picked up and taken to the Four Seasons at the international airport, where you can refresh, relax, and prepare for your evening flight home.

Tour Bonus

An exciting bonus is getting to spend time at a Rhino reserve, where you can capture this rare species including the almost extinct Northern White Rhino.

The safari business has had over 100 years to perfect rules and regulations.  Drivers and companies are insured and receive formal training covering topics like how close they can get to animals, driving off-road, etc. For guests, there are restrictions concerning venturing out of vehicles and camps. Mostly it’s just common sense.

I am traveling alone on my first safari, what tour do you recommend?

We have many single guests coming on our small group tour. It will allow you space to enjoy your trip but also the opportunity to meet like-minded travelers and experience a safe, amazing adventure.
