This photo safari takes you to the world famous Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. The advantage of this park is that it is relatively small so you can easily gain access to an abundance of wildlife and get up close to the Big Five. On this tour will focus on capturing images of the Big Cats (Lions, cheetah and leopards) We maximize shooting time by flying in and out of the park without having to take a lengthy overland route. This allows you to shoot right up to your departure taking advantage of every opportunity. Every guest will receive one-on-one instruction along with private image reviews so you learn as you travel and practice new techniques and styles of shooting.
Your tour starts with your arrival in Nairobi. Our professional and experienced team will greet you at the airport and transport you to the boutique Fairview Hotel for a good nights rest. In the morning a safari briefing will discuss the entire trip and introduced to the whole safari team.
Overview: The Fairview Hotel prides itself as “the country hotel in town”. It is family run, located about a kilometer from the city center and set out in a quiet and leafy suburb. Charming and quite, the perfect place to start and end your Mara safari adventure. The hotel features beautiful rooms, a wine cellar and a pool.
Today you visit the world famous Sheldrick Animal Orphanage. Here you will meet the dedicated staff who look after orphaned elephant’s and introduce them back to the wild. Later in the day we visit Giraffe Manor to let you get up close to these amazing animals, touch and even feed them! For lunch we step back in time and visit the “Out of Africa” Karen Blixen museum which features both actual items from the authors past as well as those used by Robert Redford and Meryl Streep
We spend the next few days getting close to both rhino and elephants. Our camp has both indoor and outdoor viewing platforms as well as an underground bunker!
In the Mara you will encounter abundant wildlife that presents amazing photography opportunities. Often you only require only a short range zoom under 300mm or even a standard lens. We have had encounters with the wildlife just a few meters away allowing the capture of stunning portraits and detail shots.
To increase shooting opportunities we sometimes carry packed meals so we can avoid wasting time by having to go back to the camp. Staying in the field longer gives us the option to travel to more remote areas and arrive before other groups. All our 4×4 vehicles come equipped with power outlets, bean bags and free WiFi. Each stays in radio contact allowing us to meet if we come across a unique wildlife encounter. Its not uncommon to see several cheetah families, maybe a lion kill or even catch a glimpse of a leopard on the prowl! On this tour there is a good chance you will see the Big Five in just two or three days.
On route you will you will receive instruction for professional focus, exposure and composition techniques. All guest will get 1:1 time with our professional photography instructor.
Located in the heart of the Mara we stay at several camps that provide easy access to spectacular array of wildlife. While still submerging you in comfort & luxury.
We awaken to the sights and sounds of big game country and treat ourselves to one final early morning game drive. Your Mara Safari will end with a internal flight returning you back to the city.
